Murano,
Italy
After Naples, we returned to Barcelona where my wife and I caught a flight to Venice to catch our 10 night Greece and Turkey cruise aboard the Grandeur of the Seas. We had a full day in Venice before boarding, so we had lots of time to explore this historic and beautiful city on our own.
Today's photos were taken from the water bus that took us from the airport to the dock in San Marco square. For those of you who plan to fly to Venice, you have two choices of transportation from the airport: private water taxi or a water bus. The cost of a private water taxi would have been close to $200 and included pick-up at airport, transportation in a Mercedes limo to the taxi, and drop off at the hotel. We chose to take the bus, which cost about $50. Unfortunately, the bus stopped numerous times along the way and the trip took nearly 2 hours. Then when we arrived at San Marcos Square, it was almost dark and we had no idea how to get to our hotel while carrying three pieces of luggage plus our carry-ons. We hired a "porter" who carried our luggage diretly to the hotel. Of course that cost another $30. Venice is an expensive city!
One advantage of the water bus was that we got a tour of Murano and a few other spots in Venice that we wouldn't have seen. It was late afternoon when we travelled the route past Murano then on to Venice so the light was excellent for photography. I photographed the buildings, churches and other boats as we travelled to our destination.
