Christmas 12

Christmas 12

It seems appropriate that I should end my Christmas Series after 12 days.  I hope you have enjoyed the variety of images that I have shared in this series.

The outdoor Nativity Scene was taken in the Holyrood area.  I made several images of outside decorations at night and I've uploaded a couple more to my Blog this morning.  I've also shared a few images of snowmen and Santas.

As I said at the beginning of this series, in stores and on TV this year the Christmas season began in August, was in full swing by early November and ended the day after Christmas Day.  Very few, if any, mention of Christmas now.

A couple of days ago I overheard two women talking about Christmas. One said that after all the expense and time preparing for Christmas, an hour after the gifts were open at her house, her kids were bored.  The other replied, "You got an hour? You were lucky!"   They may have been exaggerating but the comments speak volumes about the Christmas season as it is today.

Christmas 11

Christmas 11

During a walk up and down Water Street in December 2001, I photographed seven dolls through a store window.  To avoid reflections of buildings and vehicles I placed the lens of the camera very close to the window.  I was surprised how well it worked - I couldn't see any reflections.

Unfortunately, I can't provide any more information about the dolls other than they were dressed for Christmas and were quite photogenic.

Christmas 10

Christmas 10

Today's photos were taken in the Town of Holyrood during Christmas 2001.  As you can see, it was a white Christmas that year as well.

The snow on the red shed looked really nice and I made a a couple of different views. During my drive around town a couple of days ago, I noticed that the shed is no longer there.  The house next to the shed has also been changed quite a bit, You can see what it looked like back then by visiting my Blog and clicking on Christmas 7.  It is the last photo in that post.

The house with beautiful snowy trees and the miniature village were also very "Christmassy".  Check my Blog this morning to see other images of each of them.

Feel free to share today's photos with family and friends.

Christmas 9

Christmas 9

Yesterday around a hundred Photo of the Day emails were returned unsent.  There were too many to individually go through them and resend.  This is unusual  but I decided NOT to resend all Photo of the Days again because over 500 of you would receive it twice.

This morning I am sharing the rest of the photos taken on Boxing Day (December 26).   It was such a beautiful morning I made several photos around my yard then drove to Chapel's Cove and back stopping to photograph several houses, trees and North Arm River.

I know most people hate winter, but visually it is a beautiful time of the year.  As well, if you get outside and stay active, you don't usually get cold.  There are a few things about walking in the woods in winter that I enjoy.  First of all, it is very quiet and peaceful.  As well, there are no bugs.  I also enjoy seeing the tracks of birds, snowshoe hare, foxes, coyotes, lynx, and moose..

Feel free to share today's photos with family and friends.

Christmas 8

Christmas 8

I had planned to share more photos of Christmas, but yesterday was such a beautiful day that I just had to make a few photos of the snowy trees.  We have more snow this Christmas than we've had this time of the year for many years.  I've heard several people call it an "old-fashioned winter".   We are due another 20 cm (8 in) again today.

The first photo shows my house and driveway, which seems very long this time of the year.  Luckily, my son has a truck and plows it regularly.  I made many images of the beautiful trees with snow on the branches and deep blue sky in the background.  I also photographed a snow plow coming towards me on the highway.  Of course I moved back when it passed by the bottom of my driveway.

The eleventh image shows Holyrood Harbour with George Cove Mountain in the background.  The wreath with red ribbons caught my attention and I stopped to make a photo of the Christmas door.

Feel free to share today's photos with family and friends.
