Clouds

Clouds

Today, I came across these photos of clouds.

When I was teaching a class at Memorial University, one student decided to do an educational photography project on clouds.  I encouraged him and told him I was addicted to taking photos of clouds.  He was worried because he thought I would be too hard on his photography.  I assured him that I wouldn't.  His project was excellent and I think I gave him an A!  I learned a lot about clouds from his presentation.

I have 8 albums of cloud photos.  I am providing a link to my most recent album:

Hummingbirds

Hummingbirds

Until recently, we didn't have hummingbirds on the island of Newfoundland.  However, in recent years they are being sighted on the west coast.

I have photographed hummingbirds in Nova Scotia and British Columbia.  They are very fast and it is difficult to get a quick shot.  To get these photos I sat on my son's deck in Nova Scotia for 2 hours.  I positioned myself so I was shooting at right angles to the feeder in order to avoid getting the house in the photos.

Shore Birds

Shorebirds

In August 2006, while visiting Nova Scotia, I was walking a trail near the ocean when I spotted a large flock of shorebirds.  As soon as I stopped, they took off and flew past me.  I took several photos before they disappeared.  These may be willets.  They look like birds I photographed in Florida a couple of winters later.

Tri-Coloured Heron

Tri-Coloured Heron

I have photographed tri-coloured herons, formerly called Louisiana Herons, in Bonita Springs, Florida many times.  I remember the first time very clearly.  It was early morning and I was out for a walk and had my camera with me.  I saw a bird standing on the banks of a canal and it was flying across, catching fish on the fly.  It was too far away to get a decent shot, but the next time I saw one I was much closer.  I concentrated on 1 bird and photographed it as it tried to catch fish on the fly.  In a couple of the photos on my Blog today, you can see its head in the water as it flew!

You can view all my photos of this bird in my Album - https://www.facebook.com/kbrucelane/media_set?set=a.10159587057140329&type=3

Sunset

Sunset

I landed on this group of photos taken from my front deck on August 22, 2017.  As I have stated many times, I often see beautiful sunsets from my house, but there are wires all along the front of my property, so I don't take as many as I would.

I have a couple of albums featuring Skies in my Yard.  Here is a link to the 4th album.  There are approximately 100 photos in each album:

Hibiscus

Hibiscus

There is an interesting tree in Florida that produces both red and yellow flowers.  I have photographed them several times and someone has identified it as a type of hibiscus.  I don't think I have ever seen another type of tree that produces 2 different coloured flowers.

Loggerhead Shrikes

Loggerhead Shrikes

In 2007, I went to Florida during Easter Vacation and on the very first day, I spotted 4 baby birds in a small tree.  They were about to fledge and were curious about me.  I took several photos over 2 days, then they were gone!  I was lucky to see them and even luckier that I had my camera with me.

I have included all the photos of the baby birds as well as photos of adults in my Loggerhead Shrikes Album:

Tulips

Tulips Tulips are a sign of spring, but my tulip gardens are under a foot or two of snow. It will be a while before we see the beauty of the...
