Pollinators

Pollinators

I was excited when I saw my first honeybees in early June, but since the dandelions have gone, I haven't seen one around my yard.  There are a few bumblebees, but there seem to be lots of other insects that are enjoying the flowers in my yard.

I think the insect with the honeybee and on the daisies is a type of hoverfly, but I am not sure.  I will get an ID from the Insects of Newfoundland Facebook Page.

Cozumel

Cozumel

In the fall of 2016, we were on the Oasis of the Seas and one of the stops was Cozumel, Mexico.  When we got off the ship, there were a few people dressed in traditional costumes and, of course, I had to take several photos of them.  I am sharing those photos here this morning.  If you would like to view my other photos of Cozumel, click this link - https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?vanity=kbrucelanetravel&set=a.1355391384633826

Laburnum

Laburnum

Around 5 years ago, a friend brought me a laburnum tree that had been out of the ground for 3 or 4 days.  I had a hole dug in my backyard and planted it.  We supported it, but it didn't do very well.  I can't count how many times I would look out and it was lying flat on the ground - in all seasons.  I tied it to several large trees nearby, but after 3 years I cut the support lines and left it to nature.

It has survived since then despite the damage to the bark that was caused by the supports I used.  This year, it has the most flowers yet so I am hoping that it has finally stabilized and will continue to thrive.

Starlings

Starlings

I have photographed starling in Newfoundland, Florida and Nova Scotia, and they look a little different in each place.  They are interesting birds that usually flock together, especially late in the day.

Buttercups

Buttercups

Buttercups are pretty little yellow flowers that grow all over the island of Newfoundland.  I like them, however, they are very invasive and I am constantly weeding them from my flower and vegetable gardens.  I let them grow everywhere else!
