Art Project

Art Project

In 2001, all classes at Mary Queen of Peace School in St. John's participated in a day-long art project with the Association for New Canadians. Volunteers with that group came to the school and worked with teachers, students, and parent volunteers on a variety of art projects in each class. Later in the day, the minister of Education and the School Board Superintendent showed up to view the projects and speak to the students. The Minister even participated in one project for a short while.

I will upload the photos I took that day to 2 separate albums and I started the first one today.  You can follow it here - https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?vanity=kbrucelane&set=a.10162271777240329

Icebergs - Quidi Vidi

Icebergs often get grounded near the entrance to Quidi Vivi Village in St. John's. When they do, lots of people visit and can view icebergs from the shore. They get fairly close to the large pieces of 15 000-year-old ice. I have photographed several icebergs in the same area and have created an album that you can follow here - https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.10162264025115329&type=3

horses

Horses - Port Kirwin

In 2001, I travelled the Irish Loop a couple of times and photographed most communities along the route.  When I stopped at Port Kirwin, I saw a young lady with two horses and stopped to take a few photos. Unfortunately, I don't remember her name, but we spoke for a while as she tended her animals. Both she and her husband were very friendly and put up with me taking lots of photos.

I created a special album this morning and will share all the photos I took there: https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?vanity=kbrucelane&set=a.10162266160040329

The Tangled Garden

The Tangled Garden

I have visited The Tangled Garden, located in Nova Scotia, a couple of times, but in 2010 I paid to do a walking tour of the gardens behind the storefront.  It was July 3 and I was amazed at how many flowers were in bloom already. They are around 2-3 weeks ahead of us here in Holyrood.

As you can imagine, I took lots of photos of the wide variety of flowers and plants there and I will share them over the next few days.  You can follow the album here - https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.5669353043092799&type=3

Rhododendrons

Rhododendrons

I have a beautiful little Rhodendron growing in a garden behind my house.  My wife purchased 2 types of rhododendrons nearly 20 years ago and I planted them in my yard.  When I moved to my new house 15 years ago, my son (who bought my old house) made some changes to his yard and one of the plants was damaged, then taken out of the ground where it stayed for over a year. It didn't appear to be dead so I transplanted it to my yard, where it has flourished., despite being out of the ground for so long.

It is a beautiful plant that adds much-needed colour to our garden.

I have 2 Rhododendron Album and you can find them here :

    Chickadees

    Chickadees

Another species of bird that stays around here all year long are chickadees.  They are beautiful little birds that are friendly and will take sunflower seeds from my hand.  I also enjoy the variety of songs they sing. Though they are tiny, they are tough because they don't mind the winters here.
