Communities

Communities

Today I am starting a new series in which I will share photographs of Newfoundland and Labrador communities.  Several years ago I was asked to put together a slide presentation that would be shown at a fundraising dinner for Battle Harbour.  The theme of the show was the beauty of communities around our province.

I will upload 10 images to my Blog each day and encourage you to check them out.
The photos today are from:
  1. Norman's Cove, Trinity Bay
  2. Spaniard's Bay, Conception Bay
  3. Ship Cove, Conception Bay
  4. Trout River, Great Northern Peninsula
  5. Port de Grave, Conception Bay
  6. Cape Broyle, Southern Shore
  7. St. Mary's, St. Mary's Bay
  8. Burin, Placentia Bay
  9. Flat Rock. Northeast Avalon
  10. Little Catalina. Trinity Bay

Since the tourist season is approaching, this series will serve to show the beauty that you will see when you visit the bays and coves around the province.

Sheds/Houses 4

Sheds/Houses 4

These are the last of the images of sheds and houses that I took during a photo trip on May 10, 2014.  Included are photos from Bay Bulls, Petty Harbour, Cape Spear and Black Head.

I have been photographing the green building (looks like two houses, but only one door) and I think the colours have always been the same.  The area has changed quite a bit and, sadly, while there this time I noticed that there had been some damage to the side that was covered by a piece of plywood.

Today you will also see houses that are in great condition as well as a few that look like they may have been abandoned.

Sheds/Houses 3

Sheds/Houses  3

The first photo shows a house I saw in Tors Cove while during a photo shoot on May 10, 2014.  Obviously, this house will never be repaired and will probably be gone soon.  The two colourful houses were photographed in Bauline East on the same day.  I think the blue house was also taken in the Bauline East area.

A couple of boat tours operate out of Bauline East and there are several hotels/cottages in the area, all of which attract tourists.  I suspect these businesses are good for the local economy.

Sheds/Houses 2

Sheds/Houses 2

Today's photos were taken on May 10, 2014 in Witless Bay on the Southern Shore.  As usual, I made photos of a few houses and sheds that looked like they may have been abandoned.

Yesterday I said that I have photographed some of these houses and sheds on previous occasions and a few of those photos can be seen on my Witless Bay - Houses and Outbuildings  Gallery. For example, there are a couple of photos of the last house this morning on that page, one of which was taken in 1981.  There are also images of the house in the second photo taken several years ago.

Sheds/Houses

Sheds/Houses

Today's photos were taken on May 10, 2014 in the Conception Bay communities of Marysvale and Cupids.  I have photographed most of these houses and sheds on previous occasions and a couple have changed quite a bit.  It is interesting to see how things have changed in 10 years and be able to go back to compare the photos.
