Remembrance Day 2002

Remembrance Day 2002

This morning I am continuing with photos of children who attended the Remembrance Day Ceremony in Holyrood in 2002.

I was always happy to see parents taking their children to Remembrance Day Ceremonies because, even though they may be too young to understand what it was all about, eventually they will understand and may continue to "Remember" the sacrifices made by our soldiers who went overseas in the prime of their lives to fight for freedom of the world.

Yesterday, news reported that poppy sales this year were up over a million dollars.  Unfortunately the world is in a sad state at this time in history. The advances of ISIS and the horrific acts of violence they perpetrate, wars in other unstable parts of the world, kidnapping of hundreds of young girls, lone wolf-attacks in the US and Israel, and terrorist attacks in our own country that recently took the lives of two of our soldiers have all contributed to our appreciation of those who fight for the freedoms we enjoy every day.

While teaching at Mary Queen of Peace School a group of students created a web site dedicated to our Veterans that we called "Those Who Remember".  The site received much attention at the time and students were interviewed by the media.  When I retired, I copied the entire site and uploaded it to my web site to ensure it wouldn't be taken down.  You can visit this site at: http://www.lanephotography.com/legion/index.htm

Feel free to share with family and friends.
