New Perlican

New Perlican is located on the south side of Trinity Bay in Newfoundland and Labrador. It is believed that this town has been inhabited since the mid-1600s with nine people living there by the end of that century. Fishing was the main industry there until the close of the northern cod fishery in 1992.

Like many towns around the island of Newfoundland, New Perlican still has several fishing stages, but not as many as in the past. You can see from the photos that there are trees on the hills behind the town, but on the land nearest the ocean (third image), there are few. The last image shows the entrance to a park at the end of one of the main roads in the community.

New Perlican is one of the towns along the Baccalieu Trail, which I plan to photograph again soon.
