Mykonos, Greece 7

Mykonos, Greece 7

I have uploaded more street scenes in Mykonos again this morning. A few people have thanked me for sharing "sunny" photos from a warm climate because of the deep freeze that most of Canada and the northern US have been experiencing for the past week or so.

The circular disk with concentric circles, commonly seen in Turkey and Greece, are meant to ward off the "evil eye" - dirty looks that some cultures think can cause bad luck. If you would like more information about this, just do a search for evil eye on the Internet.

An older gentleman sitting alone in an outdoor café made an excellent photographic subject and I made a couple of images of him before he saw me. He was a local resident who was used to the climate because it was a hot morning and he was dressed in long pants and a long-sleeved jacket - certainly not the typical tourist garb.

Mykonos, Greece 6

Mykonos, Greece 6

I saw three local gentlemen looking at a book in one of the streets of Mykonos and quickly made a few photos of them. I wondered what was so interesting so I wandered in their direction and found they were looking at a book of photographs. They ere examining each one carefully and I wondered if they were photographers.

One business had a large front yard (for this place) and I had to wait for a chance to photograph it without people. For some reason. there were several people posing in front of it.

I included the photos of plants to give you an idea of what residents did to see a bit of greenery. I've uploaded more images of people and tiny cafés again this morning.

Mykonos, Greece 5

Mykonos, Greece 5

Even though most of the streets in Mykonos were narrow, small trucks and motorcycles were allowed on the streets. It must have been frustrating for drivers because some of the streets were literally full of tourists. As you can see form the photos, there wasn't much room for the small vehicles to get around.

As well, there wasn't much greenery around the parts of Mykonos we visited. There were few trees but many flower pots outside doors and on steps. This is quite a contrast to the forest all around my home.

We saw a few very narrow streets that were nearly totally white. If you look carefully, you can see a white bag in the roadway on one of them. I've uploaded one photo of an alleyway that was so narrow, I could barely fit through it!

You should be getting a sense of what it was like to walk around the streets of Mykonos from the photos I have been sharing. A few people have said that they are enjoying the photos of Mykonos more than those of Santorini that I shared last week. To be honest, I also enjoyed Mykonos more, but part of the reason is because we were on our own and had much more time to explore. It was more relaxing and I could take many more photos.

Mykonos, Greece 4

Mykonos, Greece 4

As usual, my wife and I wandered up streets that were less busy. It was still early but the shops were open for business, and there weren't too many people in the restaurants even though they were just beginning to open. The restaurant with pink flowers looked like an interesting place to have lunch.

I can't understand how they sell some of the larger souvenirs such as the wooden art and ceramic windmills shown in today's photos. With the weight restrictions on aircraft and the possibility of breakage, it must be difficult to carry these types of items back home.

Other photos this morning include doors, windows, people and one of the small trucks they use to navigate the narrow streets.
