Cormorant

Cormorant

I photographed this cormorant in Florida as it was trying to eat a fish it had just speared.  As you can see, the bird had its upper and lower beak stuck through the fish’s belly.  The top of the cormorant’s beak is curved and it was having a hard time getting it out.  Once it got its beak out of the fish, it had to line up the fish so it could be swallowed easily.  Eventually, it was successful and was rewarded with a good meal.

On October 1, 2014, I posted a comment about cormorants in PEI – feel free to have a look at: http://kbrucelane.blogspot.com/search?q=cormorants
