Barcelona 3

Barcelona 3

The first photo this morning shows a narrow road leading to the entrance of the Gothic Cathedral. I've uploaded other photos of the narrow roads in Barcelona's Gothic Quarter to my Blog today.

The flowers surrounded a small fountain that had an egg balancing in the water. The game of making an egg "dance" in the water started in Corpus Christi church and eventually spread to other religious and public buildings. The origin of this custom is unclear but it is believed that the egg represents the exaltation of the Eucharist (the egg) above the Chalice (the fountain which encircles the egg and is surrounded by flowers which represents the plenitude of Spring and life reborn).

Photos of the Day are for sale as stock photographs
and photographic enlargements.
They can also be purchased as slide shows
and/or wallpapers/screensavers.
