Garden

Garden

On Sunday afternoon I took a quick walk around my yard and made photos of several plants and flowers including chuckley pears, black currantsm red currants and day lillies.

Becaue it was so cold and cloudy in June and July, my vegetables aren't growing well. However, it seems that the fruit trees and shrubs are producing lots of berries. Yesyerday I walked up and down my driveway and picked enough wild rasberries to make a bottle of jam. The rest should ripen over the next few days and I should get more.

There are so many black currants on my shrub that the branches are sagging to the ground. They should be ready to pick in the next couple of days. The red currants are also plentiful this year.

I planted one day lily a few years ago and this year there are a dozen of them blooming.

I noticed that a few of you Liked my Facebook page yesterday. Thanks for showing an interest in seeing more of my photos. In case you missed the links I am including them again today.

Feel free to share with family and friends.

Day Lilies

Day Lilies

Several years ago I planted a single day lily bulb and every year there seems to be more blooms. There were four when I made these photographs a couple of days ago and yesterday there were six.  They are beautiful and add colour to the garden and I like making photos of them.

Despite the fact that we have only had one day of rain in over a month and there is a water advisory in effect here in Holyrood, most flowers and plants in my yard are growing well.  There is a small pond near my house and I have been carrying pond water to my gardens in two gallon watering containers. Everything is very dry around here and we really need a good day of rain - which tropical storm Bertha may bring here in a few days!

Feel free to share today's photos with family and friends.

Flowers

Flowers

My Opening Photos Series was both interesting and productive for me. It gave me an opportunity to go through some older photos in my collection and in the process, I updated all three Opening Photos Galleries. The photos are now larger, the pages redesigned, and the links fixed or updated. Until I started the series, I didn't realize how many broken links there were. I assume it happened after a couple of server crashes and I didn't pick it up. If any of you are ever on my site and notice broken links, feel free to let me know. In the meantime, if you are interested in seeing the Galleries follow this link and you will be taken to the most recent where you will find links to the other two. http://www.lanephotography.com/previous/previous_03.htm

For the next couple of days I plan to share a few photos I've been taking around my yard in the past week or two. We are enjoying the beautiful weather this summer - the best weather we have had for several years.

The first photo shows a wave petunia, very colourful and prolific bloomers. I was following a bee that visited the lavender flowers in one of my gardens. You will have to be fast to capture bees in flight. Only one day lily plant grew this year and it produced two beautiful yellow blooms.
