Red-bellied Woodpeckers
In the past week or so, photographers have been travelling to the Southern Shore on the Avalon Peninsula to get a photo of a red-bellied woodpecker that has shown up there. It is a rare bird for the island of Newfoundland and I am happy to see it here. Hopefully, there will be more.
I have photographed red-bellied woodpeckers in Florida numerous times. They are common in the gated community I visit and I have gotten fairly close to them. As long as they are feeding or preening, you can sneak up on them.
