Thunder Falls/"Leech Brook"

I think it was the early 1990s when they changed the name of Leeches Brook to Thunder Falls.  I am not quite sure why they changed the name, however, to the people from Grand Falls-Windsor, it will always be "Leech Brook"!

There are  several swimming areas on this river: 
  • The Landing - usually families and smaller kids swim there
  • First Falls - shown in the first 3 photos above.  It is not the easiest to get to, but people used to dive from the top of the falls
  • Second Falls - the most popular spot.  People used to climb the rocks and jump or dive from the top. There was also a cave under the falls nearly 1/3 of the way up.  
  • Bathtub - not shown in the photos, but further up the river were a few small pools that were excellent for a refreshing dip
