Labadee, Haiti
Our first port of call was Labadee in Haiti. Luckily for the residents of this part of Haiti, there was no damage from the hurricane that decimated much of the country a few weeks ago. There was an issue with the workers on the private beach and there was a delay getting people ashore, but it was settled within an hour and people headed to the beaches and other attractions.
To be honest, it felt weird to be heading to shore in a country that is suffering so much. It hasn’t recovered from the devastating earthquake a few years ago or the destruction of a hurricane a few weeks back, yet everything in Labadee seemed “normal”: the shops, beaches, and activities.
A few small fishing boats were out bright and early and were dwarfed by the huge cruise ship. I photographed a few of them as we approached the dock.
