Witless Bay Line 3
A few people have commented on the photos I have been sharing
over the past number of days and most are happy that their roads don’t drift in
like the Witless Bay Line.
To be honest, most roads in Newfoundland and Labrador are not
like this one which is located on high barren ground with strong winds. During
a snow storm the drifts get fairly high, but after the road is plowed, snow
continues to drift over the snow banks created by snow plows and on this part of
the road, the process continues until the banks get very high. Often, this road
is closed fro days at a time until they can clear the drifts.
Today’s photos were taken on the
Witless Bay Line on March 15, 2004. The drifts of snow in some places were over
10 feet (3 m) high.
