English Harbour West 2

English Harbour West 2

One thing I noticed as I visited the communities on the South Coast was that most of the houses were painted white.  That is obvious in the photos I am sharing today.  As you view photos of this, and other communities, check it out. In case you don't know, English Harbour West is located in Fortune Bay.

Feel free to share with family and friends.

English Harbour West

English Harbour West

I also visited English Harbour West in August 2008 and will share my photos of this community over the next week or so.  This community is bigger than Pools Cove and relies on fishing for its livelihood.  There is a fairly large facility there, but it didn't look like it was used for much back then.  In fact, they have a museum on the second floor.  I will share photos of the museum at the end of this series.  Remember, these photos were taken over 10 years ago, and I am sure there have been changes since I was there at that time.

I will start an album on my K. Bruce Lane Photography Page and add the photos daily.  I will provide a link to the album at the end of the series.

Google returned a few dozen emails yesterday, so if you use Gmail, you will probably have to check my Blog, where I also post my daily photos.

Pool's Cove 6

Pool's Cove 6

For the past few days, Google has blocked about a dozen emails.  It seems to happen for a few days, then stops.  I have no idea why, but you can always find my daily photos on my Blog.

Today, I am sharing the link to my Pool's Cove Gallery on Facebook, where you can view, or share, all photos in the series.

As you have seen over the past 6 days, people in Pool's Cove, at least in 2008, were actively involved in the fishing industry.  Lobster pots were evident around the town as were fishing nets.  Most boats were small which means they probably fished close to shore.  I included a scenic photo of one of the mountains in the area, but it wasn't in the town itself.

Feel free to share with family and friends.

Pool's Cove 5

Pool's Cove 5

I took these photos on a "Man's Trip", as my Dad used to call them.  We left Grand Falls/Windsor early in the morning on August 7, 2008 and drove to the Connaigre Peninsula on the south coast of the Island - close to a 3-hour drive.  Pool's Cove was our first stop of the day, and while the weather was not the best, I did walk through the community and take lots of photos.  I think a sunny day would have been better, but the photos I have been sharing give a good idea of what the tiny community was like.

Feel free to share with family and friends.

Pool's Cove 4

Pool's Cove 4

I spotted a man painting a bird feeder while walking through the tiny town of Pool's Cove on the south coast of the island of Newfoundland.   I also photographed most of the fishing stages, if not all of them, in the community.

Feel free to share with family and friends.
