There are many reasons why people go to the Back Bay area of Bonita Springs and today's photos show some of these activities.

I photographed several people who were fishing from boats and kayaks as well as others who were standing in the Gulf of Mexico or sitting on the beach.  Other enjoy the boating experience whether it be a small canoe, a large yacht and everything in between.


Like me, I saw other photographers who were there to capture their experiences.  You will see one photographer making photos of a shell on a piece of driftwood while his partner suns herself nearby.

The photos with dogs running loose shows the "Dog Beach" which is run by the city of Bonita Springs.

Lover's Key Beach 3

These are the last photos of Lover's Key State Park near Bonita Springs, Florida.  I spoke to the young woman, who was from Canada, and asked if I could photograph her throwing the seine net into the river.  She agreed and I made a few images of her as she threw the net over the bridge into the river below.

Osprey, also known as fish hawks, are common near all the beaches I've visited in Florida.  Of course, they are also common here as well, but I don't get too many opportunities to photograph them here.  As you can see, one of them was curious about the people below because it looked towards us as I made the photo.


I saw a couple of people canoeing in the river and photographed them.  I know there are alligators throughout Southwest Florida and wondered if the people would be in danger if their canoe capsized.

Active People

All of the photos I am sharing were taken in the late 80s on colour slide film. Like most of the photos I've been sharing over the past week or so, they are candid photos in which the people had no idea they were being photographed.

The first photo shows four young women in Deer Lake heading out for a canoe trip on the Humber River.  A young boy throwing rocks in the water from the beach in Bay Roberts demonstrates great form in this common outdoor activity.  A young boy scoops up a handful of capelin in Outer Cove Beach.  The last couple of photos show young men windsurfing in Deer Lake on the west coast of the island of Newfoundland.
