Windmills









Windmills

When I spotted windmills near St. Lawrence on the Burinn Peninsula, I had to take a few pictures even though it was getting late in the day.  As you can see, there are no trees in that area and I imaging there is lots of wind to keep the blades turning.

I was happy to see this form of green energy and would like to see more projects like this around the province.

The Matthew










The Matthew

It was a rainy, wet and cold day on June 24, 1997, when The Matthew sailed into the welcoming town of Bonavista to crowds of cold spectators.  I was among them and, luckily, qualified for a press pass that allowed me to get into a few of the celebrations.  It was a historical event that celebrated 500 years since John Cabot's discovery of the island of Newfoundland.  The Matthew was a replica of the ship that Cabot sailed across the ocean in the spring of 1497 and it took nearly 3 months to make the journey.

Rhododendrons











Rhododendrons

Around 20 years ago, my wife purchased 2 rhododendrons that I planted in my back yard.  After we moved next door, my son had some work done in the back yard and one of the rhododendons was taken out of the ground and laid aside.  It was there for nearly a year and a half so I decided to take it and plant in in my new yard.  I was a little worried that it wouldn't survive, but since then it has flourished and I look forward to it's beautiful pink blooms for a week or so each year.

Grates Cove








Grates Cove

Yesterday, I was in Grates Cove for Father's Day Dinner at the Grates Cove Studio.  Before we ate, I took a few photos around the harbour.  This is the first time I had been there since 2003.  The town hasn't changed that much, but there were no boats around at all.  The last time, the harbour had quite a few small boats tied up in the harbour.

Greenspond









Greenspond

If you visit Greenspond, you will notice the rocky shores.  In a couple of places, it reminded me of Peggy's Cove, a popular tourist destination in Nova Scotia.  I purposely chose photos today showing views of the bare rock in the community.

Posters














Posters
