Trinity

Trinity

Trinity is a popular place to visit in summer, but in winter it looks entirely different.  Today’s photos were taken in mid-February, 2004.  It was a cold winter’s day with winds whipping around the light snow.  Note how the snow banks in the second photo are right up against the house.

Feel free to share today's photos with family and friends.

Painted Bunting 2

Painted Bunting 2

Today I decided to share a few more photos of painted buntings, including a couple of a female which is predominantly greenish yellow.  It is difficult to photograph these birds because even the slightest sound or movement scares them away.  Then it takes several minutes before they get the nerve to come back.

You can view 30 photos of these birds on my web site at: http://www.lanephotography.com/birds/painted_bunting/painted_bunting_01.htm

I have been using The Cornell Lab of Ornithology – All about Birds site to  help identify birds.  You can check their entry on the painted bunting at: http://www.allaboutbirds.org/guide/Painted_Bunting/id

Painted Bunting

Painted Bunting

Painted buntings are found in the southern USA, Mexico and Central America.  The males are brightly coloured with blue heads, red breasts and green backs.  They are small birds that like to forage in thick cover or seed feeders.

You can view 18 photos of these birds on my web site at: http://www.lanephotography.com/birds/painted_bunting/painted_bunting_01.htm

Boreal Chickadee

Boreal Chickadee

Once, while walking through the woods behind my house, I heard the familiar sound of a chickadee and spotted one in the trees close by.  It stayed there long enough for me to make a few photos.  I later identified it as a boreal chickadee.

Swallow-Tailed Kite

Swallow-Tailed Kite

I have photographed swallow-tailed kites during trips to Florida.  This one flew out of an orange orchard then circled above me a couple of times before disappearing again.  I was lucky to capture a few good images of this bird in flight during the minute or so that it was close by.

Holyrood - River

Holyrood - River

Today I decided to share photos of a river in Holyrood.  JUst a minutes walk from the Conception Bay Holyrood, I have photographed the small waterfall fairly often.  These photos were taken in July, 2001.

LYNX

Lynx There are wild lynx in the woods around my home, but I haven't seen one. I have seen their tracks in the snow from time to time. Th...
