Fishing

Fishing

Wherever I go, I photograph people going about their daily activities, one of which is fishing.  Most people in the photos are probably fishing for salmon, however, some may be fishing for sea trout or brook trout.

I will have to create an album for fisherpersons ... :)

Salmon Fishing 2

Salmon Fishing 2

Today's photos of salmon fishermen were taken from the bridge across the Exploits River near Bishops Falls.

I have never fished for salmon but have been out in the early morning making photos. It is usually the quietest and most peaceful time of the day. I imagine the fishermen enjoy the whole experience: getting up early, the peace and quiet of standing in the water waiting for a fish to bite, occasional wildlife sightings, and chatting with others who have the same interest.

Salmon Fishing

Salmon Fishing

I have photographed salmon fishermen trying their luck on the rivers around Newfoundland and Labrador and decided to share a few over the next couple of days.

The first five images show a fisherman on a river near Gambo. You may need to look closely at the sixth photo to see at least 9 people fishing on the Exploits River behind the paper mill in Grand Falls-Windsor. The last five images show men fishing on the Exploits River near Bishop's Falls.

Grand Falls

Grand Falls

When I arrived in Grand Falls I drove around town and then behind the old paper mill to photograph the Exploits River.  I walked out to the dam and made a few photos there and along the way.

The Exploits River is the longest river in Newfoundland and is a good river for salmon fishing, especially near the Bishop's Falls and Grand Falls.  If you look closely, you will notice a small tributary.  This is Stony Brook and I've included a photo or two of that river as well.  I also uploaded a few photos graphs of trees and flowers.

Active People 1

Active People 1

The last time I shared photos of Active People was in March, 2013 and if you go back through the images I shared then, you will find that the photos I shared during that series were from slides that I had scanned.  For the next few days I plan to share several more digital photos of people.

I usually stop to photograph people I see fishing in the many excellent rivers we have in Newfoundland and Labrador. The first three photos show a fisherman standing in a river in Gambo, the second three photos  were taken on a river in Point Leamington and the last four show salmon fishermen trying their luck on the Exploits River near Bishop's Falls.

When I was younger, I used to enjoy trout fishing, but have never been salmon fishing despite living in a province with hundreds of salmon rivers.

Feel free to share today's photos with family and friends.
