Fortress of Louisbourg

Fortress of Louisbourg

I randomly chose this photo from the Fortress of Louisbourg in 2005. We decided to check out this historical site on our way home. We didn't realize how much was there, so we decided to go back again someday. We did that last year.

 I really liked meeting the people in period costumes and the way they acted like the characters from that time. If you haven't been there, add it to your list of places to see. I have albums of photos from both visits on my Facebook Travel Page.

Red Fox





Red Fox

 In 2005, I was driving through Gros Morne National Park in 2005 when I spotted a fox cross the road ahead of me.  I stopped the car, and to my surprise, the fox came toward me.  I assume people had been feeding it and it thought I had food.  Instead, I was able to photograph this wild animal for 10 minutes or so before it wandered into the brush.

Sam


Sam

 In 2014, mu 4-year-old grandson, Sam, received a bubble-making toy and was having fun with it.  It's amazing how much fun kids have with bubbles.  To be honest, it was fun watching him.

 If you are wondering how I choose the Random Photo of the Day, I go to a folder with all my reduced photos and close my eyes.  I move the mouse up and down a few times and stop.  If I stop on a folder, I check to see how may photos are there.  If it's a lot, I close my eyes and move the mouse until I stop on a photo for the day.

Dogberries in Winter

Dogberries in Winter

 It is interesting that this photo popped up today because we are expecting another 30-50 cm (12-20 in) over the next few days.  To be honest, there aren't any dogberries left on the trees around here so I probably won't get more photos like this.  I like dogberry trees (mountain ash) and the bright red berries covered in snow with the deep blue sky in the background.

Holyrood Yard

Holyrood Yard

This is a friend's yard in Holyrood in the mid-80s.  I had been living in Holyrood for a couple of years and I asked her if it would be OK to grow a few vegetables in her yard (I had no good soil).  She agreed and I dug up a part of her yard and grew vegetables, which I shared with her at harvest time.   

 The following year, I expanded it to the grassy area in this photo.  It was easy to dig because it was excellent soil that had been farmed by the family for years.  It has all grown in now.  As well, the shed in the background has been gone for many years!

Wood Stork







Wood Stork

 This morning I happened upon a photo of a wood stork trying to swallow a dead fish.  It was very difficult and I photographed it for quite a while.  It finally got it down. I decided to show more of the sequence.  The last photo shows a bit of the tail still poking out of its beak.
