Flowers

Three weeks ago I sent photos of yellow garden mums that were just starting to bloom. Today there are hundreds of blooms on the plant. I am sending two photos to show you how plentiful the flowers are.

Of course since there are so many flowers, they are attracting bugs such as bees and wasps.

Icebergs

The summer of 2003 was a great year for icebergs and I was fortunate to get out on a boat to photograph them 4 or 5 times. The photos I am sending this morning were taken near an iceberg in Port de Grave, Conception Bay.

I was on board the boat in the first photo and decided to photograph the two guys looking at the berg. I think adding the people to the composition added a human element to the scene that will probably affect your perception of the image.

The larger boat in the second photo is 85 ft. long so you will get a sense of the size of the iceberg. You can see a couple of people on the front deck. The larger boat passed between us and the iceberg so I used my zoom lens to capture a closer view of the people with the huge piece of ice dominating the background.

Recently, someone asked if I ever photographed people and I had to admit that I like taking candid shots of people going about various activities. Occasionally I share a few of these photos on my Photo of the Day.

Quiet Morning

Last summer I was walking along Water Street when I saw a young lady enjoying a coffee while reading a book. I took a candid photo of her while she was looking down because I didn't want her to be recognizable.

Snowshoe Hare

In the Spring, one of our cats caught a baby "rabbit" (snowshoe hare) and brought it home. We were able to save the little guy and bring it back to the woods and release it. Hopefully it survived.

Ducks

Thanks for all the comments about the boreal chickadee. Today I am sharing 3 photos of a duck that was eating capelin, tiny fish that spawn on the beaches around Newfoundland and Labrador during the summer.

I didn't know that ducks ate fish until I witnessed this scene. The ducks would swim over a school of fish, pick one out of the water and swallow it - no easy feat! The third photo shows one that swam to the beach to try and swallow the fish. If you look at the end of its beak you will see the tail of a capelin sticking out of its mouth.

Boreal Chickadee

I finished the video on Florida Sunrises last night. It is a series of photographs of sunrises taken in Citrus Park, Florida during my visit in 2005. Total length - 6 minutes. I plan to make a shorter sampler to upload. Maybe later tonight.

This morning I am sharing 2 images of boreal chickadees. I photographed these birds during one of my hikes to the hills behind my house. I thought at first they were black-capped chickadees, but when I looked at them a little more closely, I realized that they didn't have the "black cap" on top of their heads.

Doors

There are many colourful doors in St. John's and today's photos show two that I photographed in the Battery this year.

I enjoy photographing doors, especially very colourful ones.
