Chuckley Pear

Chuckley Pear, Holyrood, June 14, 2003

Chuckley Pears are fairly plentiful around my property in Holyrood. They flower around mid-June and produce fruit in late August - early September. The fruit is edible, but the birds get them around here. I have never harvested the berries.

I do have a Facebook album of photos showing flowers, fruit and fall colours.

Northern Cardinal

Northern Cardinal

Until fairly recently, we didn't have northern cardinals in Newfoundland.  A few years ago, I hear one while working in my yard, but didn't see it.  Last year there were a few spotted on the island and one even stayed the winter.

The northern cardinal is a beautiful bird and even though it is fairly skittish, I do have an album of photos online.  I am providing links to Facebook and Google Albums. Feel free to check them and Share.

Sunrise

Sunrise

In June 2011 we were on a cruise ship in the Mediterranean between Barcellona and Venice. Every morning, I got up early enough to photograph the sunrise.  This isn't one of the most dramatic, but it is the random photo for today! One morning, a couple came up to view the sunrise, but the guy looked at his companion and said that it was a waste of time because there were clouds.

My advice is to stay and watch sunsets and sunrises for a while because it is a peaceful time of the day!

Photo Art

Photo Art

This morning, my Random Photo of the Day is a composite image of an iceberg, humpback whale and a northern gannet. I combined the 3 images to highlight things tourists might find in Newfoundland and Labrador.

I shared that one but included 4 more to show a few more examples of photo art.  I have 3 albums of this type of image on my Facebook page.  I am sharing one link today.

Rose Hips

Rose Hips

I photographed these rose hips during a winter walk in 2006.  The red rose hips stood out among the drab colours of winter.

I do have an album that features photos of wild roses throughout the seasons.  I am providing a link for those of you who may be interested.

American Robin

American Robin

This morning I chose this photo showing an American Robin perched on the branch of a dead tree.  As you know, I photograph birds a lot, especially in Florida.  But I took this one in the woods behind my house in Holyrood.

The robin is common around here every Spring and Summer, but they are skittish and I don't get a lot of photos.  If you like this bird, or you want to see signs of Spring, feel free to check my Facebook Album of American Robins.

Bonne Bay Pond

Bonne Bay Pond

Friends of ours from Deer Lake had a cabin on this lake and we visited it several times over the years.  One day, while driving by, the water was so calm that I stopped to take a few photos.  If you haven't visited this part of the province, I would highly recommend it!
