Fortress of Louisbourg 17

Fortress of Louisbourg 17

A small group of men herded a flock of sheep into a compound and I made photos of the process.  I also made sure I photographed most of the characters dressed in period costumes.

This village was probably similar to most communities in the 18th century -   residents had to raise gardens and domesticated animals for food.  It must have been a very hard life for most people.

Fortress of Louisbourg 16

Fortress of Louisbourg 16

It was around lunch time when we had an 18th-century lunch - vegetable soup and bread.  It was actually tasty but it could have used a little salt.

After lunch, we headed back towards the Mi'makq Centre because we wanted to see a cultural show there.  Of course, I photographed more buildings inside and out, making sure I captured the people in character.

Fortress of Louisbourg 15

Fortress of Louisbourg 15

The soldiers marched out of the King's Garrison and the other characters also made their way back to the village.  The visitors wandered around the Garrison looking at the various exhibitions there.

While I was in Fortress of Louisbourg, I tried to make photos of the characters without regular folks.  Sometimes it was impossible because people would often walk into a scene as I took a photo.

Fortress of Louisbourg 14

Fortress of Louisbourg 14

Once the soldiers marched into the King's Garrison, they took positions along the wall and fired muskets and both large cannons.  You can see the tremendous amount of smoke from the cannons.  Apparently, they do this twice a day during the summer season.

Feel free to share with family and friends.
