For the next 3 or 4 days I plan to share photos of Veterans on parade in St. John's on Remembrance Day, 2001. Since the Veterans shown today were in their seventies and eighties nine years ago, many of these men and women are no longer with us. As those of you who have been on my list for a few years already know, I have photographed Veterans attending Remembrance for many years and have a large collection of images of "Those Who Remember"
Today, we have young veterans of recent conflicts such as the one still ongoing in Afghanistan. In recent days here in Canada, Veterans and their families have been protesting the poor treatment they are getting from the Federal Government after they have returned from Afghanistan. Apparently, soldiers seriously injured while serving their country are being denied the benefits to which they are entitled. The National News here this morning spoke of homeless Veterans in our country. The Federal Government should be ashamed of themselves. These new Veterans deserve to be automatically treated with respect by the government department responsible for them and these young men and women should not have to fight for that respect here at home!
