Houses, 1996

Houses, 1996

In the fall of 1996, I drove around a few towns near Brooklyn, Bonavista Bay. I saw several houses that were in bad shape and made photos because I suspected that they would be gone forever soon.  After 21 years, these houses and shed are probably gone forever.  If anyone knows if these buildings are gone for certain, I would like to know.  Thanks in advance.

I remember someone asking why I wanted to photograph the old houses and I explained that the photos I took may be the last before the houses were torn down.  Especially twenty-one years ago before everyone had a camera in their pockets.  In those days photography was much more expensive.  Besides the cost of the camera equipment, every photo cost me between 50 cents and a dollar.

Today I am sharing photos of plants in my yard that were taken a couple of days ago.  You will see images of Shasta daisies, rhododendron, and allium with a bumble bee.

Since sharing the photos of swallowtail butterflies yesterday, I updated my Butterflies Galleries.  Feel free to have a look - http://www.lanephotography.com/butterflies/butterflies-main.htm

Tiger Swallowtail Butterfly

Tiger Swallowtail Butterfly

My two lilac trees are in bloom and attracting several species of butterflies, bees and other insects.  The tiger swallowtail butterflies are the easiest to photograph because they tend to stay still longer than the others.  Of course, they are also large and brightly covered making them very photogenic.

Butterflies interest me and I have many images of these amazing little creatures on my website - http://www.lanephotography.com/butterflies/butterflies.htm

Today's photos were taken on June 26, 2017.  Coincidently, it was a year ago that I shared 11 photos of the same type of butterfly on the lilacs in my yard.  If you would like to view those images got to http://kbrucelane.blogspot.ca/2016/06/tiger-swallowtail-butterfly.html

Voisey's Bay 3, 1996

Voisey's Bay 3, 1996

As I said previously, I made these photos during a photo trip to Voisey's Bay In early September 1996, during the exploration phase of the mine.  Today I am sharing photos of helicopters as well as a few of construction that was ongoing at the time.

I was hired to photograph "Helicopters at Work" and had a helicopter pilot who took me up every time another helicopter was doing a job such as moving supplies from one drill rig to another, dropping supplies on a ship, or bringing drill cores from drill rigs to base camp.

I enjoyed flying in a helicopter with the door off and leaning out to make photos.  I had a seat belt around me and another around my camera bag.  I was shooting colour film for the job, but shot a few slides with my back-up camera.  I am sharing images from the slides I shot.  The negatives were provided to Canadian Helicopters along with a complete set of prints from the job so I can't scan them.
