Portugal Cove South

Portugal Cove South

Portugal Cove South is another small community located on the southern Avalon. Today's photos were taken during a visit in 2002 and when reviewing them to update my Gallery, I found that the main subject photographed that day was Houses.

The side road through this community will take you to Mistaken Point, where you can view the oldest fossils of complex life forms found anywhere in the world. It will also take you to Cape Race where you will find an interesting lighthouse and telegraph station which played an important role in the Titanic story.

I updated my Portugal Cove South Gallery and you can view the 18 photos at: http://www.lanephotography.com/irish_loop/portugal_cove_south/portugal_cove_south.htm

Port Kirwin

Port Kirwin

Port Kirwin is located along the Irish Loop on the Southern Shore of the Avalon Peninsula. I spent some time chatting with the people with the horses who suggested going to the end of a gravel road to see the beautiful, but rugged, shoreline.

I updated my Port Kirwin Gallery and you can view the 17 photos at: http://www.lanephotography.com/irish_loop/port_kirwin/port_kirwin.htm

Point la Haye

Point la Haye

Point la Haye is located in St. Mary's Bay along the Irish Loop. A short drive off the main road takes you to a point of land jutting out into the ocean. This is where most of the photos on my new site were taken.

In summer you may decide to sit a while on the long beach where you can see the town of Gaskiers in the background. If you head out to the light, you will find a rugged shoreline where waves are eroding layers of sedimentary rock. When the photos were taken in 2002, a lone crow stopped on an old fence post to find out what I was up to.

I updated my Point la Haye Gallery and you can view the 22 photos at: http://www.lanephotography.com/irish_loop/point_la_haye/point_la_haye.htm

Peter's River

Peter's River

Peter's River is located on the southeastern Avalon. This community is near the barrens where I photographed caribou many times. Once, a resident (thanks Dave) "guided" me to the full herd, which at that time numbered close to 6 000 animals. Today it is much, much less - maybe less than 300 animals. Wildlife biologists are studying the cause of the rapid decline.

I updated my Peter's River Gallery and you can view the 22 photos at: http://www.lanephotography.com/irish_loop/peters_river/peters_river.htm

Mobile

Mobile

Mobile is located on the Southern Shore of the Avalon Peninsula. Even though I have been there many times, I have only photographed the harbour and houses nearby. The photo of the boat was taken in 1981 and I've uploaded 3 additional photos scanned from slides taken during that trip.

I updated my Mobile Gallery and you can view the photos at: http://www.lanephotography.com/irish_loop/mobile/mobile.htm

Kingmans

Kingmans

Kingmans is a very small community on the Southern Shore of the Avalon Peninsula. I must go back there soon because I only photographed one area of the community - a fishing stage with three boats moored just off shore.

I updated my Kingmans Gallery and you can view the photos at: http://www.lanephotography.com/irish_loop/kingmans/kingmans.htm

Fermeuse

The next community in my Irish Loop Series if Fermeuse, located along the southern shore of the Avalon Peninsula. This town, with a population around 250, is the home of NHL player Ryan Clowe of the New York Rangers.

Cape Broyle

Cape Broyle

Cape Broyle is a scenic community located along the Irish Loop on the Southern Shore of the Avalon Peninsula. If you are driving in this area, I recommend a drive off the main road to see more of this community.

On one of the side roads the fish drying on a clothesline caught my attention and I stopped to make a photo that I plan to add to my Clotheslines Galleries when I update them later this year.

I've included a couple of images of the house and barn in the second photo as well as 35 other images to my updated Cape Broyle Gallery at: http://www.lanephotography.com/irish_loop/cape_broyle/cape_broyle.htm
