Thanks for all the comments about the boreal chickadee. Today I am sharing 3 photos of a duck that was eating capelin, tiny fish that spawn on the beaches around Newfoundland and Labrador during the summer.
I didn't know that ducks ate fish until I witnessed this scene. The ducks would swim over a school of fish, pick one out of the water and swallow it - no easy feat! The third photo shows one that swam to the beach to try and swallow the fish. If you look at the end of its beak you will see the tail of a capelin sticking out of its mouth.
