Fishermen 2

A few weeks ago I shared a photo of a person's hands splitting fish. Today I am sharing images of fishermen splitting codfish, the first four of which were scanned from slides taken in the 70s and 90s. The last was taken a few years ago in Trinity during the food fishery (people are allowed to catch cod for food for a limited period during the summer).

The first was taken in the mid 70s in Leading Tickles, Notre Dame Bay. Compare the size of the cod in the first photo with those in the second photo taken in Tors Cove around 15 years later, just a year before the federal government's Department of Fisheries closed the northern cod fishery in 1992. The fourth photo was taken in Petty Harbour in the early 80s. As time passes, these type of photos become more valuable from a historical point of view.
