Cape St. Mary's 2, 2002

Cape St. Mary's 2, 2002

In 2002, I visited Cape St. Mary's, located on the Cape Shore on the southwest Avalon.
Yesterday I shared photos of the beautiful scenery that you see as you walk from the visitor centre to the northern gannet nesting area on Bird Rock.  As you can see from the photos, photographers can get within a few metres of the nesting sites to make photos.

This is the most accessible and one of the best sites for viewing nesting birds in the world.  I spoke to a professional bird photographer in Florida and Cape St. Mary's is on his bucket list.  I was surprised he knew about it because most people I talk to from the US have no idea where Newfoundland and Labrador is.  In fact, two years ago I was watching CNN in Florida and they showed scenes of a big snowstorm and identified the place as "Prince Edward Island, Ontario", a huge mistake for such a large network.
