Signal Hill


















Signal Hill

Back in the late 60s one of our geology classes took a field trip around Signal Hill to view the sedimentary rocks, conglomerate and other geological features.  There were no wooden stairs or chains for safety purposes, just a basic trail on the sides of the cliffs.  Today, the trails are much safer and many more people use them.  I was surprised at the number of people there, especially the serious runners.
Today I am sharing photos of the steep cliffs, the Cabot Tower, the harbour, people, and a couple of pigeons I photographed along the trail.  I included a couple taken from across the harbour to show those of you who have never been there how high and steep the cliffs really are.

I visit Signal Hill every day when I am in St. John's. Enjoyed a sunrise there one morning, as well as midnight solitude. I was almost blown off one winter's day, too! Something there speaks to me, I can't put my finger on it. I think in a former life I was a fisherman's wife waiting atop the hill for a glimpse of my love returning.
