Iceberg - St. John's

Iceberg - St. John's

Yesterday I walked around Signal Hill making photos of the two large icebergs that are grounded near the entrance to the harbour.  I made several photos while a tour boat circled each iceberg to show how large the icebergs really are.  It is difficult to judge the size unless there are reference points and this tour boat serves that purpose.  There are two levels to this boat and I estimate the top is 20-30 feet above the water and the highest point of the icebergs is probably around 130-150 feet.  When you think that this chunk of ice broke off a glacier in Greenland 2-3 years ago and has been exposed to the elements since then, imagine how big was it originally!

Now that you have an idea of how large these icebergs really are, I will share more images over the next few days.
