Naples, Italy

 Naples, Italy

After nearly 6 hours on the road we planned to return to the ship for lunch, then walk into Naples to make photos. However, once we finished eating, it was the hottest part of the day and I didn't really feel like going ashore. Instead, I went to Deck 12 of the Liberty of the Seas and made photographs from there.

A large fort dominated the scene not far from the ship. Next to that, in the middle of the downtown area, there was huge excavation in which they were uncovering Roman ruins. Mount Vesuvius, is still an active volcano even though there hasn't been an eruption since 1944. Nearly 3 million people live near this volcano making this the most densely populated volcanic region in the world. A large eruption, like that which occurred in 79 AD, would be catastrophic and many lives would be lost.
