Flatrock

Flatrock is located on the northeast Avalon about 15 minutes drive from St. John's. Like many other communities in Newfoundland and Labrador, Flatrock has lots to see: steep cliffs, rocky shores, seascapes, boats, stages and a grotto which was visited by Pope John Paul II when he was here in 1984. Every time I visit the community, I find new things to photograph.

In the first photo you can see a boat moored in the harbour and in the foreground you can see layers of sedimentary rock. No doubt the name of the community came from the rock structures in the area. The second image shows the steep cliffs at the entrance to the harbour and the third shows a wide view of the town from a lookout on a higher elevation.
