Flowers 2

Flowers 2

I like watching the hard-working bumble bees as they fly from flower to flower collecting nectar and pollen for their young. I have photographed bees often over the years and managed to capture a few good images that are in crisp focus. Since the bees don't stop very long, it is a challenge to make an image when they aren't in motion.

I think the purple flower is a form of loosestrife, but I am not certain. There is a small patch of these flowers growing in one of my gardens but I didn't plant them. This spring I didn't weed that part of the garden because I had purple coneflowers there for a couple of years and was trying to avoid picking them as weeds. As it grew, I wasn't sure what it was, and since there was no sign of the coneflowers, I left it alone. I know that purple loosestrife is considered an invasive species in some places, but I've only seen this flower once before in Newfoundland and Labrador and it was growing in a wetland near a river. Those were much taller plants than the ones growing here.

My wife purchased a "straw daisy" which has been blooming for a few weeks. I like the colourful blooms and have made a few photos since the plant started producing them.

FYI, Purple Loosestrife is now found in abundance West of the Foxtrap Marina along with a large area of Cattails. Your 'candidate' is similar to a weed in my garden. The flower with the bee is Veronica spicata (I believe). Nice pics - all of them.

Thanks for the info ... next time I am up there I'll check it out. Hopefully the ones in my yard are not purple loosestrife. Do you think I should dig them out?
