In 2004, my son and I hiked to La Manche on the Southern Shore of the Avalon Peninsula. A short hike takes you to what remains of the community after it was destroyed during a severe storm in 1966. The scenic East Coast Trail passes through the community and you can follow it to see spectacular seascapes.
