Alligator

Alligator

I was watching an alligator when it raised its head and started to open its mouth wider and wider.  To be honest, I think it yawned, though it may have been showing me that it had a huge mouth and was warning me to stay away.  When it closed its mouth again, it turned toward me and scratched its neck with one of its back legs. Normally these animals don't move around much when they are sunning themselves. When it went in the water it turned and tool one last look at me before going under water and disappearing from sight.

The photos I am sharing today were taken in July. 2003.  The young girl is probably in her late teens by now.  I remember that I was making photos and asked her parents if I could make images of her.  They gave permission and I sent them copies after I got home.

Swallow-tailed Kite

Swallow-tailed Kite

Mottled Ducks

Mottled Ducks

I enjoy watching and photographing ducks.  The mottled ducks in today's post were photographed in Bonita Springs, Florida.  After observing for quite a while I can predict when they will "stand up" in the water and flap their wings.  I was lucky to capture an image of one that had taken flight.

Osprey

Osprey

I photographed an osprey hunting fish over a pond and was impressed at the skill of hovering and changing directions.  It was a pleasure to watch and photograph.  And is a pleasure to share with you.
